Rosario: I am a freshman at the University of Texas at El Paso majoring in Criminal Justice, with a minor in Psychology. I retired this January as a Public Safety Supervisor at 911 after 24 years and I now work as a Supervisor/Trainer for the El Paso 311 Center. As a public safety employee, I've come across calls dealing with gun violence. My part has been to quickly respond to the initial situation and find out what is going on in order to get help out to victims as soon as possible, all the while keeping Police officers and Fire/Medical personnel up-to-date with the situation at hand. I strongly feel these situations can be reduced if not prevented. Gun control is one element that can help but other factors such as strong prosecution against family violence, gun trafficking, drug suppliers and gang violence can help. I also feel that community participation in education, intervention, and rehabilitation in these areas can make a difference. I hope this website helps visitors see that they can make a difference by taking some type of action, either by being informed or by participating in a call for action.
